Patience

My sweet husband made me a CD for Valentine’s Day and it had this great song on it called “Emmylou”.  One of the lines has been on my mind so much since I heard it…

“Now so much I know that things just don't grow
If you don't bless them with your patience”

Take a listen, it’s a beautiful song:

I’m not a very patient person and it is something that I have been trying to work on lately.

In fact, when we first decided to try and have a baby, I was not very patient about it at all.  I had my mind made up, I was ready!  Why didn't it happen immediately?  James was always great about reminding me that the best things grow out of patience.

I feel like I am constantly struggling with being patient.  I wonder what I can do to help Baby Gilbert grow up to be a loving, patient person.  That’s definitely a flaw that I don’t want to pass down!

Anyway, that’s what is buzzing through my brain as I am about to leave work on this rainy evening.

Paint Party

What a difference a coat of paint makes!

The transformation from guest room to nursery was complete on Saturday.  I can’t believe how great the room looks, and how real it all feels now. I’m excited to work on all of the finishing touches in the weeks to come.

A big thanks to Gigs and my dad for doing all of the tough work!  Oh, and my sister, Randi, made a guest appearance as well.

Here they are, hard at work:

Here are some “after” shots of the room.

Another thanks to Dad for financing the rug!

Here’s one last shot of Gigs and our “first born”.

24 Week Update

Time seems to fly by rapidly and the belly seems to grow exponentially!   I feel like I am on cloud nine, and truly feel like I am one of the most blessed people in the world.  Dad and James are having a paint party on Saturday and I am ecstatic for the nursery to start coming together.

The restoration folks are officially done with our bathroom but we haven’t replaced the floor yet.  Hopefully, we’ll take care of that in the next week or so.  The damages aren’t enough to surpass our insurance deductible, so we are trying to spread out some of the pocketbook pain.  I think our tax refund will come right in time to help for it.

Okay, now for the update:

How far along? 24 Weeks

How big is baby? Apparently, about the weight of cantaloupe but as long as an ear of corn

Maternity clothes?  Oh yea.  A couple of pre-prego dresses still work, but barely.

Sleep: I have finally adjusted to sleeping on my side.  Right now, I am sleeping like a rock!

Best moment this week:  Before bed one night, James was telling me about a story he is writing (he’s working on a comic for a local anthology).  The baby started moving like crazy, as if it loved the story J

Movement: I feel the baby ALL the time now. I absolutely love it and feel so happy every time.  They are pretty soft at this point.  James has only been able to feel it once or twice.

Food cravings: No, I've been on a grilled cheese kick though

Food Aversions: Still not a fan of peppers

Gender: ??

Pregnancy Symptoms:  Still the afternoon heartburn.  I get really hungry really quickly now too.

Belly Button in or out? In

What I miss: My old skin, I used to never break out.

What I am looking forward to: Going to the doctor tomorrow!  I love hearing that heart beat!

Upcoming appointments/events:  Yes, tomorrow (Valentine’s Day!)

Weekly Wisdom: I saw a neat article online.  The main idea was: Don’t fret over the way you look.  You’re growing a human inside of you!

Milestones:  I can’t think of any….?

Bump Picture:

Home Interrupted

The last week has been a little crazy in the Gilbert household.  What started as a tiny puddle of water in our bathroom has turned in to a mini-disaster.  Okay, I admit that I am being a little dramatic, but it FEELS like a big deal.

A pipe burst in our bathroom last week, which apparently caused some water damage.  We've had a team of plumbers and restoration folks in our home all week trying to help us get things back to normal.

There’s a little machine in our bathroom keeping everything nice and dry now:

Hopefully, they can fix the floors soon, and life can go back to normal!

A special thank you to Dori and Claude for watching Brighton during all of this.  I think he would go crazy around all of the workers. Plus, Brighton LOVES Camp Candlewood!

In other news, we hope to paint the nursery soon.   I’m being very indecisive about the color and am slowly trying to narrow it down. I’m going for a grayish-blue (I think).

What do you think?  Gender-neutral is harder than I thought.

I’ve ruled out “D” since it looks a little purple-ish.

Okay, I suppose that's all for today!  Hope everyone has an awesome weekend!  And Go Ravens!
